Pizza Networking EventAt our annual PAC Pizza Networking event we were joined by 4 PA schools (Mercer University, Emory University, Augusta University, and Salus University), 2 volunteer organizations (Good Samaritan Health Clinic and Aurora Day Camp), current PA students, Kaplan Test Prep, and representatives from the pre-health community at Tech! We had so much fun seeing everyone make connections with all these amazing people. We also got to enjoy lots of pizza. Thank you everyone for coming out to this amazing event!

Remote Area Medical Clinic - Knoxville, TNA few PAC members had the opportunity to travel to Knoxville, TN to help at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) mobile clinic. RAM provides free medical, dental and, vision care to individuals who would not otherwise have access to these services. While there, members got to help with vision screening, and many other things. Working along side 1000+ other medical professionals (PAs, PA students, doctors, nurses, dentist, etc.), they were able to provide $896,282 of free care to 1,534 individuals in the Knoxville community. We cannot wait for the opportunity to go back next year. See you soon Knoxville!!

Tour of Emory University PA SchoolOur members had the opportunity to explore the Emory University Campus. Lead by director of admissions for the PA program, Allan Platt, members got look in lecture halls, talk about the admission process, learn about life of a PA student, and gain insight about their possible future as a PA student at Emory. Thank you for another great tour!

What to Expect in PA SchoolAt our first general meeting of the spring semester we learned about the typical life of a PA student. We discussed curriculum, size and length of programs, the PANCE (the test that makes you a certified PA), and about the clinical rotations.
PA Club was also lucky enough to be joined by Allan Platt, the Director of Admissions for Emory PA School. He shared his large knowledge about the application process, his thoughts on why PA is the best decision, some history about the PA profession, and some information about what makes the Emory PA program so unique. He also brought in some new medical gadgets for our members to play with! Allan was able to answer so many questions and we had fun learning about PA school with him. |
Spring Pre-Health KickoffAt this semesters pre-health kickoff we had the opportunity to hear from a panel of previous GT students who are currently enrolled in a variety of medical programs. They were able to give tips on applying to schools, crafting personal statements, preparing for tests, and choosing the right classes.
After hearing from the panel we had the chance to share PAC and other Pre-health clubs on campus with students who attended the kickoff. We had some delicious pizza and everyone had a chance to ask questions and network with members of the growing pre-health community at Tech. |
Coffee & Donut SocialAt our second annual coffee and donut social members had the opportunity to meet other members of the club and network with the exec committee while enjoying dunkin' donuts and coffee! It was great getting to meet so many new people and learn about their journey to becoming a PA!

Patient Care 101At this general member meeting we discussed what patient care hours (PCH) are, what PA schools look for in PCH, and how to find opportunities to get PCH. Check out the powerpoint shared in this weeks email for more specifics on how to find opportunities in our community!
We also had the opportunity to hear from Emily Farrow. Emily is a Georgia Tech alumna who is currently working on getting her PCH to apply for PA schools. She talked about her experience as a medical assistant and answered questions about how to leverage your PCH experiences when applying for PA schools. |

CHOA Hospital Party
Heading back into school during the start of the Spring 2019 semester, we had an incredible volunteer opportunity at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. We paired with CHOA's Scottish Rite to host a hospital party for current patients there! We got to make crafts with the patients and their families during their stay.

Winter Trip: RAM USA!
PAC had the incredible opportunity to attend a patient-care trip to to volunteer in Knoxville, TN with RAM USA. We were able to provide free medical, dental, and optical care to underserved and uninsured individuals in the area.
The mobile clinic served an astounding 1,533 individuals with free medical care (total value of $883,456!). Thank you so much to all who came. We look forward to working with RAM next year and encourage you to check out their page under our RESOURCES tab. |

How to Make CASPA Your Friend
During this meeting, we covered a topic we call "How to make CASPA your friend". Topics included what CASPA is, how to organize PA programs, application techniques/methods, and much more! We also discussed the PA Club executive application process. Applications are now open, we encourage you all to apply!

Bring Your Own QuestionsAt our last meeting of the semester we introduced our new 2019-2020 Executive Board! We also discussed the history of Physician Assistants.
We were also fortunate to have a former Tech Graduate, Georgiana Massad. Georgiana went to PA school at Mercer University and now works as a primary care PA. She was able to answer everyones questions about patient care hours, PA School, and the life of a PA. So happy that we had an opportunity to speak with her! |
Coffee & Donuts SocialThe coffee and donuts social was an event put on for dues-paying members to network with fellow students. We enjoyed some treats, and grab a free t-shirt and stickers! At the event, members were able to sign up for a PAC buddy, which is someone within the club to make you and your partner feel like part of the community. |
PA School Application ExplainedAt our third general meeting, we covered the process of applying to PA school and the necessary steps to get there. We also heard from an incredible guest speaker (Louis Trinh, CAA) who shared his professional experience as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.

At the second general meeting, we hosted GT alumni to discuss how you should spend your undergraduate time preparing for PA school. This is a crucial topic given that this profession requires field experience to be accepted into graduate school. We discussed several ways you can earn this experience, including companies, contact information, and personal testimonies of Tech graduates. We toured the inside of the facilities, walked through the libraries and study facilities available to their PA students, and got a feel of what a day in the life of an Emory PA student is like. Alan answered all of our questions throughout the tour, finishing the day at the on-campus Starbucks for a nice refreshment! |
